Podcast Guides

At Flux Learning we have recorded a lot of audio: podcasts, interviews, voice over for online learning, video narration, educational videos of all types. We feel that this has given us a good insight into not just what works but also what works intuitively and cost effectively.

We are not going to argue that what we propose is cheap or the cheapest but we are happy to argue that it is intuitive, flexible, powerful and will stand the test of time. *

None of what we recommend here is sponsored or subject to any commercial partnership or commission. This is our honest opinion of what we believe works best and we have put our funds and time behind this belief to train ourselves in its use and deploy it effectively for our clients and partners. This is what we have researched, purchased and continue to use on a daily basis.

We have included links to the manufacturers, product pages in most cases. A lot of the equipment is from Rode. They are a great company with a deservedly sterling reputation in the audio world. They produce some great sounding and easy to use gear. The Rodecaster I was (and still is **) a terrific product. What it allows you do is groundbreaking and has spawned many imitators. You can record up to four people using XLR microphones while simultaneously connecting another, bring in remote guests via direct phone connection over TRRS or Bluetooth. You can also connect it to your computer and capture audio from video conference calls on Zoom, Teams or whatever you wish.

The Podmics are Rode’s entry level XLR dynamic microphones and they are well built and complement a wide variety of voice types. You can of course use the Rodecaster’s onboard effects to modify the microphone output to your taste or use case scenario.

The RODE NTH-100 headphones are well regarded and well reviewed reference head phones. They provide an accurate sound - what you hear is what you are recording.

We have also linked to Barker Photographic where you can find this equipment competitively priced. Barkers is a great store and Paddy has been a source of sage advice to Flux Learning on everything from Peli cases, to video backdrops, to studio lights.

There are a many ways to podcast and each podcast does things slightly differently. This is how Flux Learning has elected to develop our podcasts and our audio recording and editing skills. This is the product of five years experience recording voice over and podcasts professionally.

We hope this information is of use to you.
