About Flux

Flux Learning is committed to people, place and proficiency based progression. This is not a paper commitment but something the Flux team delivers on daily in our projects, client work and outreach activities.

People

At Flux Learning, we engage with clients, subject matter experts and learners daily. We are very motivated to ensure that the learning activities we design and course we build are usable and useful to the widest audience possible.

Central to this is accessibility. We are very committed to accessibility and align with benchmarked good practice in our online learning development work.

You can visit the Flux Learning resource page to view some of our resources and educational components around accessibility.

Digital skills are vital and Flux Learning firmly believes that these need to be fostered and supported from an early age. To this end, we support schools in their procurement and IT infrastructure setup. In addition to this and learner administration work on Office 365 and Google Suite for Education, we support some school outreach activities free of charge. These include the SHSS Podcast, now in its fifth season at Sacred Heart Secondary School and the St Mary’s Central School local history project.

Place

To support our local creative industry and entrepreneurs, Flux Learning has developed the Cork Creative podcast to give a voice to the excellent work being done in Cork. Please visit our podcast pages to learn more about the podcast and thematic series.

Proficiency Based Progression

Flux Learning was built to facilitate the building, maintenance and success of the digital learning components of Proficiency Based Progression.

What is proficiency based progression? Simply put, PBP is the most impactful and efficient training and development methodology that the Flux Learning team has had the privilege to implement in over 25 years combined experience in instructional design and learning technology.

For us, PBP is the gold standard as it demonstrates impact, efficacy and a return on investment for our partners and clients.

Visit our Proficiency Based Progression page to learn more about the PBP methodology, peer reviewed publications by its creator Prof Anthony G Gallagher and the PBP projects Flux have supported. Please contact us if you would like to learn more!

We are proud to collaborate on PBP projects but we also work with our clients on projects using other methodologies. We have worked on projects using ADDIE, Agile and Learning Design to name but a few.

The Flux Team

Flux Learning was founded in Co.Cork and has been based in Clonakilty since 2017. We are a remote working company with a distributed workforce from Canada to Scotland. Led by founder Patrick Kiely , our team has a strong focus on impactful learning.

Patrick Kiely

Technical Director

Patrick has been a digital skills trainer since 2008 and an instructional designer and learning technologist since 2011.

He has a lot of experience working across the educational sector from primary through to third level. Patrick has worked with partners in industry, professional organisations and non- governmental organisations to deliver digital education solutions tailored to their needs and those of their learners.

Patrick is a keen advocate of Proficiency-Based Progression which, based on the available published and peer reviewed evidence, is the most impactful training methodology available in the training and development space today. Patrick acted on this belief in 2017 when he cofounded Flux Learning Ltd with Greg Deane to support the design, development and delivery of proficiency based progression curricula for our clients and partners in healthcare and in industry.

An experienced project manager, Patrick is a firm believer in a pedagogical and learning theory led approach to digital education. He does remain, by his own admission, a devout techie however! Learn more.
